Most scholars agree that the book of Deuteronomy is of central importance in Old Testament theology, and in the overall theology of the Bible. Bruce Waltke, a leading Old Testament scholar, went so far as to say, “Deuteronomy is the most important book in the Old Testament for writing an Old Testament theology.” He goes on, saying, “Deuteronomy has had greater consequences for human history than any other single book.
